Ocean pollution resulting from our plastic waste is a huge problem. A team of CSIRO scientists have responded by collecting comprehensive baseline data for ocean plastic, first nationally and then internationally. Their published analysis provides an invaluable basis for government policy development.
CSIRO knew this topic was of great public interest and were keen to publicise the involvement of community scientists as an important contributor to the research’s reach and success.
The key challenge was to visually reflect the Marine Debris team’s widespread activity around Australia and throughout South East Asia over the previous four years. By scheduling the principal interviews off the back of a marine conference in Adelaide plus shooting additional footage in Hobart, we were able to combine the experience of key team members with existing footage supplied to us. This resulted in a visually rich video production.
