Are Windfarms Noisy?

Clean Energy Council

In response to anti-Windfarm claims that wind turbines create hazardous noise levels, the Clean Energy Council wanted to present some facts. Sometimes less is more.

THE CLIENT’S BRIEF

In the leadup to the 2011 Victorian State election, the Clean Energy Council wanted voters to recognise the reality for residents who live close to wind turbines and to ignore the fiction.

THE STORY REIMAGINED

With no specific story direction given, we had a blank canvas… but little time so we decided to tackle the exaggerated claims of harmful noise with the simple truth. By comparing the sound of wind turbines with more common sounds around a farm, we let the evidence speak for itself.

THE RESULTS

The simple strength of a point well-made without a word being spoken was well received by supporters of wind energy. In 2012, this video had a second life as the short film for the Opening Night of the Environmental Film Festival Melbourne.

“STEVE’S ABILITY TO INTERPRET OUR BRIEF AND ADD HIS OWN CREATIVE FLAIR ENSURED THE FINAL OUTCOME DELIVERED ON OUR OBJECTIVES. HIS DEEP EXPERIENCE, PROFESSIONALISM AND ABILITY TO THINK ON HIS FEET ENSURED THIS VIDEO WAS OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY, SUCCINCT AND VERY CLEAR IN DELIVERING OUR KEY MESSAGES. IT’S HAD REAL IMPACT. ON TIME AND ON BUDGET ALSO HELPED!”
